The work.

One of the largest smart-corridor programs of its kind in the country. Over five years, from Palm Springs to Coachella, Crosstown upgraded major corridors in ten cities and agencies: new traffic signal controllers, video detection, CCTV cameras, C-V2X roadside units, and communications. The program installed 830,000 feet of fiber optic cable and 370 traffic signal controllers. New fiber runs to a Traffic Operations Center (TOC) in each city hall or maintenance yard, plus a Regional Traffic Management Center (RTMC) at CVAG. A central mobility platform now coordinates 420 intersections. Value: $120 million over two phases.

The benefit.

Drivers crossing the valley no longer hit a new timing plan at every city line. Signals run as one system, so daily trips, regional travel, and event traffic get coordinated timing and live monitoring instead of a stop at every boundary.
