The work.
LED lighting retrofit in the I-5 freeway truck-route tunnel. Replaced pull boxes with security lids, added 30 light poles, and installed a new lighting control panel. The job also installed a changeable message sign, a generator transfer switch, and an updated fiber optic connection from the tunnel to the Glendale Traffic Management Center.
The benefit.
Truck drivers get a brighter, more reliable tunnel, and the lighting system is harder to vandalize or knock out of service. The changeable message sign and fiber to the Glendale Traffic Management Center give drivers information and give Caltrans a live path out of the tunnel.
